Naan bread


  • 500g plain flour
  • 1/2 cup yoghurt
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp yeast
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 2 tbs oil
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • water


  1. Sieve flour, add baking powder, yeast and salt. Add the egg, oil and yughurt and mix well, adding water as required to make the dough.
  2. Knead well until smooth and pliable. Cover and set aside in a warm place and allow to rise for 3 hours. Knead again and set aside for a further hour until doubled in size.
  3. Divide into 8-10 equal balls. Flaten each to approximately 8 inches in diameter and cook in a hot oven.
