A few days on Waiheke Island Travel

Waiheke Island is a short 30 minute ferry ride from Auckland harbour, and it’s the playground for Aucklanders for good reason. Stunning rolling hills, beautiful bays and delicious food and wine, it’s quite a place! The beauty of the island is well known, with hundreds of visitors arriving every weekend for day trips, weddings and holidays. Don’t let that put you off, there is a lot to explore and we often found ourselves the only ones on a beach, on a bay, or admiring a view. You just need to pick your time and go! Access to a car is also...

Beautiful WA Travel

I have been to Perth several times for work but it doesn’t really count… from store to hotel and back again, I really didn’t see much to be able to say “I’ve been to Perth”. Friends of ours were getting married and Stuart’s sister and her husband live in Perth too so it was the perfect excuse to take some time off work and see a bit of WA. Tropical getaway in Cairns Travel

The Anzac day long weekend was approaching and Stu and I decided on a whim to head to Cairns for 4 days. We didn’t need much convincing really – it has been months since our last scuba dive and the warm tropical waters of Cairns seemed an ideal way to escape the suburban speed of Sydney. It was my first visit to Cairns and it had...

A weekend in Melbourne Travel

We serendipitously both needed to be in Melbourne for work at the same time so we planned a weekend away to make the most of our time in the city.  We were “adults” in Brisbane for quite a few years before we ventured south to Melbourne and since then we have been many times. The city itself is easy to navigate by foot or by tram and the architecture, laneways and boutique shops make it easy to whittle hours away. Melbourne is synonymous with food and wine and we obviously did both while we were there! Friday night we dined...

A weekend in the Hunter Valley Travel

The Hunter Valley is an established wine region about 2.5 hours from Sydney (depending on which side of town you’re on, crossing the city is a mission!) and it’s a lovely place to spend a weekend. Friends of ours are getting married in a couple of weeks so a weekend was organised to celebrate their impending nuptials and 17 of us descended on Abernethy house with plenty of food and clanking bottles, ready for a celebration. I had planned to set off early so we could beat the traffic, but Sir Stuart the Sloth moves the pace he wants to...
