Do you want hot buns? Dine in

Easter is the time of year for traditional hot cross buns – despite Woolworths and Coles stocking them as soon as the Christmas decorations are removed. I boycott buying them until April! Or, you can make them yourself! I cooked these buns this morning, and they were delicious. Stu told me so at least 3 times in between mouthfuls of hot, butter soaked bread. Baking bread makes me feel really clever and accomplished and this recipe is easy so I can pass that same feeling on to you. I didn’t bother piping a cross on the top or glazing these as per the...

Visiting the Tramsheds @ Harold Park Dine out

I was wandering along King St, Newtown while Stu had his haircut and I bought a scrap of  Japanese cotton in a super cute floral pattern. I was planning to turn into a shirt but it’s a smidge not wide enough… so yet another paper bag elastic waist skirt it is. (I really need to teach myself how to sew a zip so I can expand my repetoire). Anyway, this is a post about food not sewing! Even though we had a snack before departure I was pretty hungry by the time we drove all the narrow back streets (thanks no thanks...

Breakfast in someone’s garage at Two Chaps Dine out

At least that’s what it felt like… we drove down a street lined with orange brick warehouses and reverse parked against a wall padded with a cushion of grass and weeds. I’m super good (most of the time) at reverse parking courtesy of Sydney. Driving anywhere is a challenge and finding a park can be worse unless you are comfortable squeezing into small spaces or parking half in/half out against a yellow line because other people can’t park properly. My logic is if my car is only half out of the designated parking area then I can only get half a...

Showdown mushroom omelette Dine in

Cooking omelettes have traditionally been Stu’s domain as one thing he offers to do for me (in addition to always asking me if I want floss when once a week he heads upstairs at 8.30pm to grab said floss so he can multitask while watching GoT). Unfortunately, I’m not a fan of Stu’s omelettes as they always have absolutely everything he can find in the fridge. Bacon, spinach, mushroom, capsicum, cheese, tomatoes plus a huge number of eggs to bind it all together. It ends up being a massive egg stew (!) on my plate which I have no hope of finishing. We usually...

Stuff on bread Dine in

I have (unfortunately) settled back into Sydney and returned to work after our wonderful trip to Amsterdam and I have fallen into my normal summer breakfast routine of muesli, natural yoghurt and fresh fruit. Our daily breakfast while we were in Amsterdam was rye bread topped with a slice of cheddar cheese (there were seemingly hundreds of varieties in the supermarket!) and a slice of cured meat, either smoked ham or ontbijtspek (a delicious smoked speck-ish product) and it was delicious and kept me full until well past lunch. Open sandwiches, or really any type of sandwich, are a very Dutch way...
