Ash-e reshteh Dine in

Are there certain foods that give you a food grin? Roti canai is one food that makes me happy (if you have never tried it, you must go to Mamak) and this soup is a new addition to the list. It takes a couple of hours to make if you take your time like I did (and a bit of foresight so you remember to soak the beans overnight). The soup is a labour of love… but well worth the love and attention you give it. Who knew a “simple” soup of caramelised onion, garlic, turmeric and herbs could be so...

Chorizo pasta sauce Dine in

I love to make pasta on a Friday night because it is so easy and delicious. I’m pretty sure I can get a plate of pasta on the table faster than ordering and waiting for food to be delivered. I read somewhere that pasta and risotto are the Italian’s version of fast food because there are so many recipes that are easy to prepare and need only pantry or garden ingredients. This recipe needs a bit of thought because I don’t always have chorizo on hand, but it doesn’t take much time to make if you’re organised. I love this recipe because...

Scrumptious chocolate and yoghurt cake Dine in

There is something so comforting about a piece of moist chocolate cake, still slightly warm from the oven and covered in a buttercream icing. Partnered with a cup of tea and a good book, it’s a lovely way to spend an hour or two. I do freeze the surplus, as there is only so much cake two can eat. A slice of cake...

Dearly Delicious Dine out

I look myself out for breakfast this morning because Sir Stu had neglected to do the dishes so there wasn’t much room in the kitchen for me to make breakfast. That’s part of it and if I am honest the other part is that I didn’t really feel like making myself breakfast so the messy kitchen was an excuse to try a new cafe. Dear Delicious opened up in Dulwich Hill mid to late last year and it only recently made it on my radar. The cafe fit out is beautifully simple and welcoming, with exposed brick walls and big windows...

Sunday afternoon view Dine out

A friend was in town so I chose to go for Sunday lunch at the Coogee Pavilion Rooftop. The owners of this restaurant/bar, The Merivale Group, are big in Sydney and I had read a lot about the different spaces, style and feel of the place as well as the quality of the food so I had high expectations. We negotiated our way through the throngs of people on the lower level and made it to the safety of the stairs. The lower level was “buzzing” but it was far too busy for me to want to eat there. We climbed the...
