A weekend in Melbourne Travel

We serendipitously both needed to be in Melbourne for work at the same time so we planned a weekend away to make the most of our time in the city.  We were “adults” in Brisbane for quite a few years before we ventured south to Melbourne and since then we have been many times. The city itself is easy to navigate by foot or by tram and the architecture, laneways and boutique shops make it easy to whittle hours away. Melbourne is synonymous with food and wine and we obviously did both while we were there! Friday night we dined...

The Pie Tin Dine out

Unfortunately this is all that was left from our visit to The Pie Tin. Tucked away in a side street off busy King St sits a small but bustling cafe. I had heard about “The Pie that ate  Newtown” so that’s what we went for, but there was so much more! An extensive array of savoury pies are on offer which you can have served with regular or sweet potato fries, or a variety of salads. We kind of over did things and ordered both types of fries and salads and it was waaay too much food. The pies have flaky pastry...

The Majestic at Petersham Dine out

I was mesmerised by this grand old cinema when we first moved to our new ‘hood in in the inner west of Sydney. Every time we drove past I peered out the window to admire the beautiful facade and let my mind wander to the stories the walls would tell. I’m so glad it has been lovingly restored to give a new generation of people a chance to interact with the space. The appropriately named Majestic Theatre was built in 1921 and in a past life was a roller skating rink. It has reopened as a gourmet food store selling...

Sunday afternoon view Dine out

A friend was in town so I chose to go for Sunday lunch at the Coogee Pavilion Rooftop. The owners of this restaurant/bar, The Merivale Group, are big in Sydney and I had read a lot about the different spaces, style and feel of the place as well as the quality of the food so I had high expectations. We negotiated our way through the throngs of people on the lower level and made it to the safety of the stairs. The lower level was “buzzing” but it was far too busy for me to want to eat there. We climbed the...

Breakfast which isn’t really breakfast Dine out

Some of our family were in town over the weekend and they were staying in the city so we met them at the Paramount Coffee Project for breakfast. It is in Surry Hills, walking distance from the city and set in the foyer space of Paramount House. It’s a lovely open cafe with soaring ceilings, concrete  floors and many different areas and seating options to suit their customers. They also have a variety of business which share the space. Last time we visited there was a bike shop, this time a bustling market stall with people leaving with calico bags overflowing...
