Slow cooked massaman curry with lamb shanks Dine in

This is the ultimate slow cook dish for winter – lamb again, I know… but it’s a lovely twist on a more traditional beef massaman curry. Massaman curries are not as spicy as traditional Thai curries can be, but it’s still full of flavour and delicious. There are plenty of recipes for home made spice pastes around and when I have the time I love to make my own. However, sometimes I just want to rely on a good curry to save time, but not compromise on flavour! Maesri make heaps of different varieties of curry paste and they are...

Tropical getaway in Cairns Travel

The Anzac day long weekend was approaching and Stu and I decided on a whim to head to Cairns for 4 days. We didn’t need much convincing really – it has been months since our last scuba dive and the warm tropical waters of Cairns seemed an ideal way to escape the suburban speed of Sydney. Beef rendang (the easy way and the long way) Dine in

I love Malaysian food and beef rendang is one of my favourite curries. I love going to a hard to find dingy food court near the Woolworths at Town Hall station in the Sydney CBD which has plastic tables and chairs, terrible service and really delicious nasi lemak – the dried anchovy, boiled egg, cucumber, peanuts, spicy sambal and rice are really support acts to the rich coconut gravy of the beef rendang. If you don’t have the time or inclination to make curry from scratch then you don’t need to read the rest of this post, you can just...

Chicken / Recipes

If using marinated artichokes I would suggest cooking the artichokes, spring onion, bacon and chicken together for about 30 minutes, instead of one hour. Ingredients 6 chicken breast fillets 1 lemons, halved 2 globe artichokes 5 bacon rashers, rind and excess fat removed, chopped 1 bunch spring onions, stems trimmed to 10cm lengths and halved lengthways salt and pepper 1 lemon, extra, cut into wedges to serve Green harissa 1 bunch fresh coriander, chopped 1 tbs ground...
